Summary

Two couples, two close friends, one missing husband…

Jake Hayes is missing。 This much is certain。 At first, his wife, Nina, thinks he is blowing off steam at a friend’s house after their heated fight the night before。 But then a day goes by。 Two days。 Five。 And Jake is still nowhere to be found。

Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing。 After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina。 But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered。

MehI found this novel to be tedious。 I could not identify with any of the characters not could I find any of the characters to be particularly likable。 I got through it but definitely not my cup of tea

Wow this was so bad。 EXTREMELY choppy & juvenile writing, boring plot, so much “telling” instead of showing, unlikeable characters who are just so oblivious。 The only people dumber than the characters are the readers IN THE AUTHOR’s MIND。Man thank goodness now I’m done with this book。

Not her best but very good

I was definitely into the mystery and suspense of this one but it took me a while to get there。 There wasn’t one character I cared about, they were all pretty flat。 That didn’t stop me from wanting to see how it all played out though。

Just the Nicest Couple, the latest by Mary Kubica, was a great thriller/mystery。 Nina’s husband, Jake, goes missing。 Her friend, Lily, might have been the last to see Jake before he went missing。 Lily tells her husband, Christian。 They decide no one can know, especially Nina。 Told from alternating points of view, the mystery of what happened to Jake unfolds。 Quite a fun ride!

3。5 rounded up - Entertaining enough but you definitely have to overlook a lot of completely impractical behaviors and things like the fact that a rich white neurosurgeon is missing and supposedly the police don’t seem to care a week later。 No one attempts to use the “find my phone” feature to find out where it was last active and locate him。 His brand new sports car isn’t found until like a week after it’s reported missing even though I’m fairly certain they’re all equipped with GPS tracking at 3。5 rounded up - Entertaining enough but you definitely have to overlook a lot of completely impractical behaviors and things like the fact that a rich white neurosurgeon is missing and supposedly the police don’t seem to care a week later。 No one attempts to use the “find my phone” feature to find out where it was last active and locate him。 His brand new sports car isn’t found until like a week after it’s reported missing even though I’m fairly certain they’re all equipped with GPS tracking at this point。 Honestly, the list goes on and on。 。。。more

This was a quick and easy read。 You think you have the two main couples figured out, but there is so much under the surface happening。 I enjoyed reading it, and the twist was interesting。 I’ve recently gotten back into reading mystery/thrillers and this was another good one for 2023。

I can't review too much without spoiling but I really enjoyed this book。 I love domestic thrillers and this had me hooked from the first page。 I felt like it was well paced and developed nicely。 I was genuinely surprised at the ending。 I can't review too much without spoiling but I really enjoyed this book。 I love domestic thrillers and this had me hooked from the first page。 I felt like it was well paced and developed nicely。 I was genuinely surprised at the ending。 。。。more

Mary is amazing!! I thought i was going to have this figured out in the end but was proven wrong, such an amazing story from the beginning til the end! I love how she starts off with a suspense builder in the prologue and then from there it just kicks off and gets really goood!

I think I'm waiting for Mary Kubica to come out with another Local Woman Missing。 This one was ok。 It did grab my attention from the beginning and I did want to read how it played out。 There were a lot of descriptions from Christian's POV on how small Lily is or how big her eyes are or how beautiful he thinks she is or that she's tired because she's pregnant。 Dude。 I got it。 Someone else mentioned how abrupt the ending is and I have to agree。 If Mary Kubica had cut out some of Christian's descri I think I'm waiting for Mary Kubica to come out with another Local Woman Missing。 This one was ok。 It did grab my attention from the beginning and I did want to read how it played out。 There were a lot of descriptions from Christian's POV on how small Lily is or how big her eyes are or how beautiful he thinks she is or that she's tired because she's pregnant。 Dude。 I got it。 Someone else mentioned how abrupt the ending is and I have to agree。 If Mary Kubica had cut out some of Christian's descriptions of everything then maybe there would have been time for more on the ending。 Spoiler from another Kubica book: (view spoiler)[ At least it wasn't all a dream。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

From the beginning of this book it felt very slow。 the characters were boring。 But I kept reading。。 so, i didn't like any of the characters。 The story is told from several points of view。 There are a few twists。The characters personalities especially Christians just seemed。。。。wait。 no personality。 It's why I didn't like the book and I felt the flow of the story very drab。 From the beginning of this book it felt very slow。 the characters were boring。 But I kept reading。。 so, i didn't like any of the characters。 The story is told from several points of view。 There are a few twists。The characters personalities especially Christians just seemed。。。。wait。 no personality。 It's why I didn't like the book and I felt the flow of the story very drab。 。。。more

I found this to be pretty bland for a “missing husband” thriller。 There were some twists & the ending was shocking but the writing was very average

Out of over the 100 books I read last year, Kubica's "Local Woman Missing" would be in my top 10 if not top 5。 Considering this, I preordered this book almost immediately and now I've learned to never do that again until checking out reviews first because there's a reason there's such a low rating on this one。 The ending infuriated me, although I saw it coming after a while。 (view spoiler)[Forgive me for thinking that the whole "woman lying about assault" twist or anything similar needed to die Out of over the 100 books I read last year, Kubica's "Local Woman Missing" would be in my top 10 if not top 5。 Considering this, I preordered this book almost immediately and now I've learned to never do that again until checking out reviews first because there's a reason there's such a low rating on this one。 The ending infuriated me, although I saw it coming after a while。 (view spoiler)[Forgive me for thinking that the whole "woman lying about assault" twist or anything similar needed to die like before it began。 (hide spoiler)] The characters are insufferable。 Christian is the single biggest weenie I've ever read in a thriller。 While the term is usually used by basement dwellers, he is what is colloquially known as a "simp"。 His voice as a narrator could've put me to sleep if I didn't listen to this at work。 Nina was a much better POV but lost all likability after pulling the whole (view spoiler)["I wont be mad at my husband for cheating on me but I'll dedicate my life getting revenge against the other woman" (hide spoiler)] garbage at the end。 You don't really understand why her and Jake ever married, but she'll still insist on dying for him。 The connection between the two couples is never really solidified so there's an aura of confusion the entire time。 I gave this 1/5 stars rounded up to 2 because there were parts that genuinely had me invested, but not for very long。 Also the cover is pretty。 。。。more
